At Preferred Family Dental, our dentists believe that healthy teeth and gums are the foundation of every beautiful smile. For this reason, routine oral exams are as essential to the strength and beauty of your smile as brushing, flossing, and rinsing. These exams allow our dentists to catch problems at an early stage before they have a chance to develop into more serious problems. Our general dentistry screenings and treatments help to ensure your smile remains healthy and youthful!

Oral Exams

Room where we provide teeth cleaning in Englewood, OHOur dentists recommend that you visit a general dentist for a minimum of two oral exams a year. The frequency of these exams depends on your individual risk for dental disease. Patients receive a review of their health history, blood pressure screening, oral cancer screening, periodontal assessment, examination of the teeth and restorations, as well as any diagnostic testing that needs to be completed. Most importantly, these exams give our dentists the opportunity to treat any minor dental problems quickly and efficiently.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Oral cancer screenings can be incorporated into your oral exams to ensure any cancer risk is identified as soon as possible. Frequent dental appointments allow our dentists and hygienists to detect this life-threatening condition in its earliest stages, leading to earlier treatment and increased chances for successful results.

Family Dental Care

As our name suggests, Preferred Family Dental treats patients of all ages. We offer a number of preventative dentistry options for children to keep their teeth and gums healthy through their teenaged years and beyond. These treatments include fluoride varnish, sealants, and short-term braces. We are trained to handle any dental anxiety or fear your child may be experiencing, and we strive to provide a treatment process that is calm and comfortable. By giving children good dental habits early on, they are less likely to develop serious dental problems later in life and more likely to keep their smiles looking their best through adulthood.

Dental Cleanings

While daily brushing, flossing, and rinsing are vital for oral health, dental cleanings remove plaque and surface stains that cannot be achieved without professional tools and techniques. Performed along with oral exams, cleanings are an extra step in the prevention of tooth decay and gum disease. In addition, our staff can teach you how to improve your daily at-home dental care habits to help ensure your teeth and gums remain healthy between visits, as well as discuss the most recent science driven prevention modalities.

Short-Term Ortho

Some patients are looking for a more time-efficient way to straighten their teeth and rejuvenate their smile. At Preferred Family Dental, we offer two alternatives to traditional orthodontics. First, with Invisalign®, patients can straighten their teeth in an inconspicuous manner, using a set of clear, removable aligners that gently shift teeth into their ideal position. Second, we use Six Month Smiles® which is a system of clear braces and tooth-colored wires that produce significant results in 4-6 months.

Fluoride Treatments

Though most patients associate fluoride treatments with children, regular fluoride treatments are just as effective for preventing tooth decay and cavities in adults.Silver diamine fluoride also used to slow active decay in children and elderly. Fluoride treatments can be added to any routine oral exam or cleaning to help you maintain a healthy smile.

Sealants

Dental sealants are a proactive step in the prevention of tooth decay. By affixing a durable tooth-colored material to the surface of your teeth, bacteria are blocked from the deep grooves and crevices where cavities are most likely to form. At Preferred Family Dental, we offer sealants for both children and adults.

Infection Control

As part of our focus on high safety standards at Preferred Family Dental, we maintain very rigorous sterilization practices. To preserve our safe and disease-free environment, we use state-of-the-art equipment to sterilize our instruments. We also use hospital grade surface disinfectants. We follow OSAP protocols for maintaining optimum bacteria free water lines, Your health is always our number one priority.

Dental Emergencies

Scaling and Root Planing

For patients who have developed early stages of gum disease, scaling and root planning can help eliminate bacteria and heal gum tissue. After a deep cleaning, our dentists will perform a non-surgical procedure to remove bacteria from the gumline, reducing tartar and improving your overall oral health. After the procedure is completed, our dentists can use laser dental technology to minimize discomfort and accelerate the healing process.

Periodontal Care

Gum disease can be effectively treated in a number of ways and our dentists offer both non-surgical and surgical options for periodontal care. The bacteria linked to gum disease directly affect the cardiovascular system, diabetes control, risk of stroke, increased risk of cancer, arthritis, causative effects to dementia, and issues with pregnancies.
